VERNON, CT — The principal at Tolland High School will become the new secondary director of teaching and learning for the Vernon public school system.
The appointment of longtime THS principal Dominique Fox by Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary was unanimously endorsed by the school board Tuesday night.
Macary paraised her as a administrator with a proven local track record.
Fox is scheduled to begin her new post in Vernon on July 1 at a salary of $153,760 as set by the school administrators union contract, which is in year 3 of a four-year deal.
The director of teaching and learning position in Vernon was split in two after Jason Magao moved to Rockville High School to become principal. He is officially the interim now but will become the permanent RHS principal on July 1. RHS principal Susan Czapla is out on "family medical leave" and has submitted her retirement papers, Macary said.
Current Maple Street School principal Melissa Trantolo has been named director of teaching and learning for the elementary level, and Fox will oversee the high school and middle school.
Fox is coming to Vernon after a decade at THS.
"Ms. Fox has served the Tolland Public Schools as Principal of Tolland High School for many years. Although we will be sad to see her go, we wish her the very best in her new position in the Vernon Public Schools. Tolland's loss is Vernon's gain," Tolland Superintendent of Schools Walter Willett said.
Tolland Board of Education Chairwoman Ashley Lundgren said she wishes Fox "all the best" in her new endeavor.
Willett said officials in Tolland are beginning the search process for a new THS principal. He said the search committee will include staff, parents/guardians, students and ultimately the final candidates will be brought before the board of education.
